Eldest and Fourth Drive

Outside the specially designed car - He is happy honest just very cold!

Driving round to get the feel of the car.

Waiting to go.

Our Eldest, since the age of 13, has been visiting the Race Track at Rockingham, Corby, Northamptonshire for drive experiences.  The aim is to get teenagers in a car and teach them some of the basics of driving and to impart wisdom, like it is not the same as the racing games on the computer!

He has really enjoyed all of the drives and on Saturday last attended the Fourth Drive where he got to drive the BMW and do a  little drifting and learn how to correct skids and under steer and over steer problems.  He had a great time and now he will be ready for when he starts to drive on the real roads in August this year.

Youngest cannot wait until next year when he starts on his First Drive.

Eerie Lighting

Our new street lights are similar to this one

Our local Highways Agency has decided to experiment in our village with some new lighting.  In fact on the road we live on and the road below us on the hill.  Unfortunately I cannot get a picture of the lighting as it just won't photograph properly.

They are new light posts with daylight like bulbs, or a white light, in but they only illuminate the area directly underneath them, leaving the rest of the road in a semi-darkness.  So far no one seems to have a good thing to say about them!  I know they are probably energy saving and I know that is something we all have to do now but I don't think these are the solution.
One set of friends did say that it will be good on Halloween for trick or treating!!

I have had that sort of week, where everything I have touched has managed to go wrong or be awkward.  I think I will go hide under the duvet with my book!

Burns's Night

Today is Burns Night when in Scotland the birth of the Scottish Bard is celebrated on his Birthday, January 25th.

Having Scottish roots and relatives it is a tradition which we carry on in our house and for dinner tonight we will be eating Haggis, Neeps & Tatties (English translation Haggis, swede and potatoes!)  For the adults a dram of whiskey!

As some of you know from reading by previous postings we go to the Highlands each year for our holidays and see friends up there and here is my favourite poem of Burn's :

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birthplace of Valour, the country of worth!
Wherever I wander, whever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.
